Former India captain Virat Kohli has put an end to his feud with Afghanistan pacer Naveen-ul-Haq during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. The dispute between the two players began during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season earlier this year. However, after India’s eight-wicket victory over Afghanistan in their second match of the World Cup, Kohli and Naveen hugged it out at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
The brawl between Kohli and Naveen took place after Royal Challengers Bangalore’s win over Lucknow Super Giants in an IPL 2023 match in Lucknow. Gautam Gambhir, the mentor of LSG, also got involved in the fight. As a result, both Kohli and Gambhir were fined 100% of their match fees, while Naveen was fined 50% of his match fees.
Since the incident, crowds in India have been trolling Naveen with chants of ‘Kohli, Kohli’ wherever he played, even after his return to the country for the World Cup. However, Kohli not only put an end to the feud by hugging Naveen but also urged his home crowd to stop trolling him in a viral video on social media.
A video of the incident was shared by Afghanistan influencer Wazhma Ayoubi on social media platform ‘X’. In the video, Kohli can be seen asking his fans to stop the fan war on Naveen, after which they shake hands and hug each other. The video received widespread praise for Kohli’s gesture.
In the match against Afghanistan, Kohli scored his second successive fifty in the World Cup and remained unbeaten on 55 off 56 balls. India won the match with 15 overs to spare, thanks to captain Rohit Sharma’s explosive century. Sharma scored 131 off 84 balls, surpassing Ricky Ponting’s tally of ODI centuries.
After the match, Sharma expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance and emphasized the importance of maintaining momentum. India’s next match will be against arch-rivals Pakistan at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday.
