IPL 2021 Dubai: Kolkata vs Hyderabad: Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 6 wickets in a nail biting which went on till the last over. After Shubaman Gill’s half-century, Dinesh Karthik played responsibly to give the his team much needed victory. Kolkata now have 12 points to their credit and are looking stronger than any other team in the play-offs race for 4th spot. The last match of Kolkata Knight Riders will be against Rajasthan Royals. Will winning that match pave the way for their playoffs? It will be important to see.
Chasing target set by Hyderabad, Kolkata also got off to a bad start. Venkatesh Iyer, who was in good form in the second leg of tournament, returned cheaply. Rahul Tripathi, who came on to replace him, also made his way to the tent with 7 runs. On one side, Shubaman Gill was playing a restrained game. Nitish Rana joined him. The duo put on 55 for the third wicket to save the team’s innings. Shubhaman Gill, who appeared in form, was dismissed after half a century. Siddharth Kaul showed him the way to the tent for 57 runs. After Nitish Rana was dismissed for 25, it looks like match moving back from Hyderabad. But Dinesh Karthik showed a glimpse of experience and led the team to victory.
Leading the race to 4th spot of play-offs, Kolkata Knight Riders held Sunrisers Hyderabad to just 115 runs. Hyderabad, who won the toss and elected to bat first, got off to a bad start. In the first over, opener Wriddhiman Saha was caught with just one run on the board. He could not even open an account. Skipper Kane Williamson (26), Abdul Samad (25), Priyam Garg (21) and Jason Roy (10) were the only batsmen to reach double figures. As a result, Hyderabad could only manage 115 for 8 in the allotted 20 overs.
