But within minutes of the match between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore, a heartwarming moment between Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni stole the spotlight and went viral on social media.
Virat Kohli also made history during the match by becoming the first Indian to score 12,000 T20 runs. This milestone was achieved during the IPL 2024 opening clash between CSK and RCB at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Kohli is now the sixth player in T20 cricket history to reach this milestone, joining the likes of Chris Gayle, Shoaib Malik, Kieron Pollard, Alex Hales, and David Warner.
Kohli reached the 12,000-run mark in the seventh over of the game by playing a shot off Ravindra Jadeja for a single. These runs include his contributions for RCB in the IPL and Champions League, for Delhi in domestic Twenty Over Cricket, and for India in T20 Internationals. Following Kohli on the list of Indian T20 run-scorers are Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan.
