There is a concern about rain affecting the highly anticipated clash between India and Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2023. The game is scheduled to take place at the Pallekele International Stadium in Kandy on Saturday. The southern part of Sri Lanka is expected to experience heavy rainfall in the coming days, which has prompted the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) to consider Dambulla as an alternative venue instead of Kandy.
However, India’s next two matches against Pakistan and Nepal are still planned to be held in Kandy on Saturday and Monday. According to the UK-based Met Office, there is currently a 70% chance of rain during the India vs Pakistan match in Kandy. The rain is expected to arrive at 2:30 PM, half an hour before the start of the match, which could potentially delay the toss and the game itself.
The likelihood of precipitation is predicted to decrease to 60% by 5:30 PM on Saturday. The Sri Lanka Meteorological Department has also forecasted rain in several provinces of the country in the upcoming days. Kandy, located in the Central Province, is expected to receive rain on both Friday and Saturday.
India and Pakistan have faced each other in 132 ODIs, with India winning 55 matches and Pakistan winning 73. Only four matches have resulted in a no-result so far.
In Group 1, Babar Azam’s Pakistan has already defeated Nepal by 238 runs in their first match. If their game against India on Saturday is washed out, Pakistan will secure a spot in the Super 4 stage. On the other hand, Rohit Sharma’s India will need to defeat Nepal on Monday to guarantee their qualification for the Super 4 if their match against Pakistan is affected by rain on Saturday.
