On Thursday at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi paid a visit to Mr. Zaka Ashraf, the Chairman of the PCB Management Committee. This visit comes amid rumors of Afridi potentially becoming the new PCB Chief. During their meeting, Afridi emphasized the importance of developing young cricket players into future stars and shaping them into well-rounded representations of Pakistan cricket. He also expressed his admiration and gratitude for Mr. Zaka Ashraf’s work and services to Pakistani cricket.
Mr. Zaka Ashraf acknowledged Afridi’s dedication and contribution to the game, stating, “We admire you as a hero of Pakistan, and you have proved to be a great ambassador of the country both on and off the field. We would love to have your experience for the betterment of Pakistan cricket.”
Recently, a Pakistan TV channel shared a picture of a chat allegedly linked to Babar Azam. The chat text displayed on the channel stated that Azam had been trying to contact the Chairman, but received no response. Azam, however, denied making any calls to the Chairman.
Pakistan cricket has faced difficulties since the Asia Cup 2023, as they have also struggled in the ongoing World Cup, winning only three out of seven games played so far.
In response to the viral chat, Afridi made a bold statement about Zaka Ashraf, saying, “Zaka Ashraf is not just a club chairman, he is the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board. He should be mindful of many things. I am surprised that you are calling media house owners to complain about what they are saying about me. You are the chairman. Focus on doing your job and delivering results. People are criticizing you because you have given them the opportunity to do so.”
