Women’s red-ball cricket made a comeback in India’s domestic calendar after six years, and Dhara Gujjar stole the show with a brilliant innings of 140 runs for East Zone against North East Zone in Pune on March 28.
East Zone captain Deepti Sharma won the toss and chose to bat, with opener Uma Chetry providing solid support with a 97-run opening partnership. However, Uma fell just short of her fifty, and East Zone lost a few quick wickets before Dhara took charge with her impressive knock.
Dhara’s innings included 22 boundaries and she shared important partnerships with Rizu Saha and Durga Murmu. North East Zone’s Debasmita Dutta was the standout bowler with figures of 5/76.
In another match at the DY Patil Academy, West Zone’s spin duo of Anuja Patil and Radha Yadav shone bright, picking up eight wickets to bowl out Central Zone for 245. West Zone was 26 for no loss in reply.
Overall, it was an exciting day for women’s red-ball cricket in India, with some standout performances from the players on display.
