Fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi made history on October 31 during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 match between Pakistan and Bangladesh. Afridi became the quickest Pakistani bowler to reach 100 ODI wickets, achieving this milestone in just 50 innings. This remarkable feat helped Pakistan in their quest for a spot in the semifinals. Afridi surpassed Saqlain Mushtaq’s record of reaching 100 wickets in 53 matches.
Shaheen Afridi, who happens to be the son-in-law of former Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi, has also been impressive in Tests and T20 internationals. In Tests, he has taken 105 wickets in just 46 innings, and in T20 internationals, he has 64 wickets to his name.
Afridi’s talent was evident from a young age. He represented Pakistan in the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup and emerged as the leading wicket-taker in the tournament with 12 wickets. He made his ODI debut in September 2018 during the 2018 Asia Cup against Afghanistan, and his T20 international debut in March 2018. Afridi’s Test debut came in December 2018.
This achievement by Shaheen Shah Afridi showcases his incredible skill and potential as a bowler. Pakistan can rely on him as their main strike bowler as they continue their journey in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
