Pakistan pacers Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah are facing uncertainty regarding their participation in the remaining matches of the Asia Cup due to injuries sustained during the Super 4 match against India. As a precautionary measure, the Pakistan team management has included Shahnawaz Dahani and Zaman Khan as back-ups for Rauf and Naseem in their Asia Cup squad. This decision has been made with the upcoming ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in mind, prioritizing the fitness and well-being of the players.
Rauf experienced discomfort in his right flank after bowling five overs on Sunday, and as a result, he did not bowl or bat during the match against India on the reserve day. On the other hand, Naseem completed his full quota of 10 overs but left the field in the 49th over of India’s innings, holding his hand. There are suspicions of an injury to his bowling shoulder. Neither Rauf nor Naseem came out to bat as Pakistan ended their innings at 128 for 8, suffering a record-breaking defeat by 228 runs against India.
The team management has stated that Rauf and Naseem will be closely monitored in the coming days. If they are ruled out for the next seven days, the team will request replacements from the ACC technical committee. Pakistan is set to play their next match against Sri Lanka on Thursday, and if they qualify, the final of the Asia Cup will take place on Sunday.
