Big Changes for IPL 2024! KKR swaps Mujeeb for Ghazanfar, Royals sign Maharaj

Afghanistan’s talented spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman will not be able to play for Kolkata Knight Riders in the upcoming IPL 2024 season due to an injury. The 16-year-old Afghan spinner Allah Ghazanfar will be replacing Mujeeb in the squad.

On the other hand, Rajasthan Royals have signed South Africa’s left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj as a replacement for fast bowler Prasidh Krishna, who is recovering from surgery on his left proximal quadriceps tendon.

Ghazanfar, who is also a mystery spinner, recently made his international debut during the ODI series against Ireland. Although he didn’t take any wickets in the two matches he played, he was Afghanistan’s second-highest wicket-taker in the Under-19 World Cup, with eight wickets at an average of 16.75. Ghazanfar has experience in List A and T20 matches and will be joining KKR for his base price of INR 20 lakhs.

Maharaj, a seasoned player from South Africa, has an impressive record of 237 wickets in international cricket across Tests, ODIs, and T20Is. He has also showcased his skills in various T20 leagues around the world. Maharaj had a successful stint with Durban’s Super Giants in the SA20 and Fortune Barishal in the BPL. He had been training with the Lucknow Super Giants squad in India before joining Rajasthan Royals.

KKR, who started their campaign with a narrow win against Sunrisers Hyderabad, will face Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their next match. Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals began their season with a victory against Super Giants.
